What Can You Eat After a Cavity Filling?

Possibly the worst part about cavities is determining what you can eat after a cavity filling. After a cavity filling, it can be difficult to find something to eat that does not cause pain and irritation, especially if the cavity filling is on the side of the mouth you often chew with.

What to eat after a cavity filling

While you are somewhat limited on what you can eat after a cavity filling, there are ways to make the most of the situation and find delicious meals that do not frustrate your newly filled tooth. The following are the four best foods to eat after a cavity filling.

Dairy products

Possibly the most delicious and most nutritious food items to eat after a cavity filling are dairy products, such as yogurt, cottage cheese and scrambled eggs. While harder cheeses may be more difficult after a cavity filling, cottage cheese, which is generally very soft and does not require much chewing goes down easy and can be added to other food items for extra flavor as well. For egg lovers out there, scrambled eggs are typically easy to consume even after a cavity filling, and it is a great way to get the proper nutrients as well.

Soup and broth

Although soup and broth do not always carry the most popular reputation, soup can actually be a delicious way to make the most of meals after a cavity filling. The best part about soup is that it does not typically require much chewing at all and broth requires even less chewing. In a moment in time where chewing can be extremely difficult, soups and broths are amazing meal options. Also, with soups and broths, you can spice it up and make it just the way you like it by adding all of your favorite ingredients.

Cooked fruits and vegetables

Although cooked fruits and vegetables require some chewing, it is still very easy to eat even after a cavity filling. Be sure to cook the fruits and vegetables, however, as doing so ensures that they are extra soft and go down much easier. While it can be difficult to cook certain fruits, finding other ways to consume them can be a fun, clever way to enjoy delicious food after a cavity filling. For instance, mashed bananas and applesauce are extremely delicious.

Smoothies and protein shakes

Lastly, but certainly not least, making a delicious smoothie is a fantastic way to enjoy great meals after a cavity filling. While most people do not create smoothies very often in general, a cavity filling gives you a great excuse to do exactly that. In the event that you are not a fan of smoothies, making a protein shake as a meal replacement is another great way to drink your meal and keep hunger away.
